There Is More to The Story.

Six-word memoirs from those who’ve lived to tell them.

There Is More to the Story Book

Six Words. A Lifetime of Memoirs.

Available soon for purchase on Amazon, There Is More to The Story is a collection of bite-sized memoirs packed with big personalities, unexpected twists and a lifetime of experiences. Some are laugh-out-loud funny. Others might tug at your heartstrings. And a few will even leave you wondering what on earth happened next.

The best part? Every single memoir is told in just six words.

Edited by Larry Smith, creator of the Six-Word Memoir Project, this book proves that you don’t need a lot of words to tell an unforgettable story. In fact, you only need six!

Here’s a little taste of what’s inside:

“Oops. Sorry, I crashed your wedding.”

“Married wrong. Eight children. Keep smiling.”

“Search for quiet. Found a puppy.”

Six-Word Memoirs® with Author Larry Smith

November 6 at 9:30 am-11:00 am PST

Six-word narrative writing has already become a favorite event at Hillcrest. Now, the person who started it all is taking the lead. Join us for a special event hosted by Larry Smith, creator of Six-Word Memoirs® and author of the book Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure. Larry will share how the idea grew into a storytelling phenomenon and some of the unforgettable memoirs he’s collected along the way. Then he’ll guide you as you create a six-word memoir of your own.

Larry Smith is the creator of the Six-Word Memoir Project, a storytelling movement born from a 2006 tweet and described by O, The Oprah Magazine as “a quest to spark self-expression in everyone.” What began as a simple storytelling prompt grew into a global phenomenon, bestselling book series, and more than two million stories—and a tool for engagement and connection in classrooms, senior communities, conferences, and corporate spaces.

A former journalist and founder of SMITH Magazine, Larry’s writing has appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, ESPN Magazine, Men’s Journal, and Edutopia, and he is the author or co-author of 13 books. He has led talks and workshops for organizations including Dell, Levi Strauss, Autodesk, Dropbox, JPMorgan Chase, Netflix, and Shutterfly, using short, sharp storytelling to build clarity, align purpose, and strengthen connection. Through Maven, Sidebar, and Modern Elder Academy, Larry teaches storytelling, communication, and connection to leaders navigating complexity, change, and their next chapters.
