Philanthropy at Hillcrest: Where Generosity Brings Community Together.

Hillcrest was founded nearly 80 years ago by donors whose generosity and vision have enriched the lives of generations of residents and their families. As a nonprofit Life Plan Community, philanthropy has always been part of how Hillcrest renews itself, adapts and plans responsibly for the future. It is shaped by the belief that community is something we actively care for, and should never take for granted.

Entrance Fees Support Residency; Philanthropy Supports Possibility.

Your gift allows Hillcrest to maintain quality hospitality, invest in the well-being of others and continually enhance the lifestyle residents value, all within a model that is both compassionate and financially sound for future generations who will call our community home.

At the end of the day, giving reflects a shared commitment to one another. It’s the comfort of knowing you live or work in a community where neighbors look out for neighbors, and where, together, we collectively leave something meaningful behind.

How does Hillcrest Give Back: A Positive Force in the Community.

Hillcrest’s impact reaches far beyond the lives of people who live here. Through volunteerism, partnerships and shared spaces, residents and team members contribute meaningfully to the greater life of La Verne and Claremont. From supporting local nonprofits to welcoming community groups onto our campus, Hillcrest is proud to be a place where generosity radiates outward. So every dollar shared gets paid forward in triple fold.

“It is the heart that does the giving; the fingers only let go.”

What Funds Can You Support?

Just as there is no single kind of giving, or giver, there is no one-size-fits-all fund at Hillcrest. Support comes from many corners: residents who call Hillcrest home, their families and friends, local charities, youth groups, churches and community partners who believe in our mission. To reflect that diversity of generosity, Hillcrest offers multiple funds tailored to different types of giving, allowing donors to support the causes and interests that resonate most with them.

Below is a brief overview of each of the funds you can support through the Hillcrest Foundation. For more details, feel free to schedule a meeting with our philanthropy office to learn more about each and where the greatest needs reside.

The General Fund provides flexible support for Hillcrest’s most pressing and evolving needs. This fund ensures that programs, services, and campus operations remain strong, responsive, and aligned with our mission. By giving to the General Fund, you provide maximum flexibility, enabling Hillcrest to address urgent priorities that benefit residents, campus life, and our dedicated team.

Contributions to the General Fund directly support the ongoing growth and vitality of our community. Your generosity helps put Hillcrest’s mission into action every day and improves the quality of life across our community.

The Benevolent Fund provides peace of mind for residents who have exhausted their financial resources through no fault of their own. This fund ensures that residents who outlive their savings can continue to receive the care, services, and support they need while maintaining dignity and security.

Gifts to the Benevolent Fund provide compassionate assistance during financial hardship, helping residents remain in the Hillcrest community they call home. Your contribution helps ensure that no resident faces uncertainty alone and that care continues uninterrupted, regardless of financial circumstance.

The Good Samaritan Fund provides financial assistance to residents who would otherwise be unable to afford the full cost of assisted living care at The Woods at Hincluding those living in Assisted Living Woods. This fund is especially important for seniors whose care needs increase over time, often accompanied by higher costs.

For residents in Assisted Living, the Good Samaritan Fund helps cover essential services such as personal care, medication management, meals, and supportive programming. Your gift ensures that these residents continue to receive compassionate, high-quality care in a safe and nurturing environment, even when financial resources become limited.

Aids associates who experience unexpected life events and other financial hardships.

The Associate Emergency Fund supports Hillcrest team members who experience unexpected life events or financial hardship. This fund reflects Hillcrest’s commitment to caring for those who care for our residents.

Assistance may help associates facing emergencies, including medical expenses, housing instability, transportation issues, family crises, or natural disasters. By contributing to this fund, you help provide short-term relief and stability for team members during difficult times, enabling them to focus on their well-being and continue providing exceptional care to our residents.

Special Purpose Funds allow you to support specific projects and programs that reflect your personal interests and passions. These funds may support initiatives such as reforestation, wellness and life-enrichment programming, spiritual life initiatives, or campus enhancements.

At Hillcrest, donors may choose to sponsor items such as:

  • A shrub or tree as part of our campus beautification or sustainability efforts
  • A bench, garden feature, or memorial space in honor or memory of a loved one
  • Wellness equipment or educational programming that supports physical and cognitive health
  • Spiritual life programs, reflection spaces, or community gatherings

These gifts provide meaningful, visible ways to enhance the Hillcrest campus while honoring people, values and experiences that matter most to you.

The Endowment Fund creates long-term financial stability for Hillcrest. Gifts to endowments generate ongoing income that supports programs, services, and initiatives well into the future, ensuring that future generations benefit from today’s generosity.

The Hillcrest Philanthropy team is happy to discuss existing endowment opportunities or assist with creating a new endowment aligned with your values. Legacy gifts, including those made through estate planning, retirement or IRA accounts, trusts, stock, insurance, real estate, endowment giving, or a portion of a refundable entrance fee, help sustain and strengthen Hillcrest’s ability to serve elders, families, and the wider community for years to come.

Whether you choose to put your gift to work today or plan for the future, your generosity creates a lasting impact and meaningful legacy.

Endowment funds create long-term stability for Hillcrest. Gifts to the various endowments generate ongoing income, ensuring that future generations benefit from today’s generosity.
