Frequently Asked Questions About Hillcrest.

Residential Living
Residential living is ideal for those who live life on their own terms and want the added ease and connection of a vibrant, maintenance-free community. It’s not about “getting older.” It’s about choosing a better way to live today — surrounded by opportunities, not limitations. Residential Living at Hillcrest is very similar to the commonly used title Independent Living you may see at other CCRCs or for-profit senior living communities.

Residential Living with Services
Hillcrest’s Residential Living with Services blends independence with convenience, providing just the right layer of everyday help. It’s not assisted living. It’s not traditional retirement living. It’s a third option that is uniquely available through Hillcrest.

Assisted Living
Assisted living is designed for those who want to remain independent but benefit from extra help with daily tasks like medication reminders, dressing or meals.

Memory Care
Hillcrest offers specialized care in a secure, compassionate setting for individuals living with brain change, Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. Staff are trained to support cognitive and emotional needs while promoting dignity and quality of life through structured routines and meaningful engagement.

Skilled Nursing
For those recovering from surgery, managing chronic illness or requiring round-the-clock medical oversight, Hillcrest provides short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care. Licensed nurses and therapists deliver individualized medical attention with a focus on comfort and recovery.

Rehabilitation
Hillcrest provides short-term rehabilitation for those recovering from illness, injury or surgery. Licensed therapists offer speech, occupational and physical therapy, supported by 24/7 nursing care. Recovery is guided through personalized plans, daily engagement and a warm, home-like setting that fosters comfort and confidence.

Palliative & Hospice Care
Hillcrest supports individuals and families through serious illness and end-of-life transitions with comfort-focused care. Emphasizing pain management, emotional support and dignity, this option ensures quality of life for residents with advanced illness.

A Life Plan Community—also known as a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)—is a residential setting that offers a continuum of care, including residential living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing, all within one campus. This model allows residents to “age in place at a pace that’s right for you,” ensuring they can transition smoothly between different levels of care as their needs evolve, without the need to relocate.
The main difference is how they use their revenue. Nonprofit communities like Hillcrest reinvest earnings into resident care, staff and services, focusing on mission and quality of life. For-profit communities, on the other hand, are run to generate financial returns for owners or shareholders, which can influence how resources are allocated. Moreover, nonprofit communities may offer benevolence funds that allow qualified residents to continue to live in a community if they run out of financial resources. For-profits seldom have these types of programs. Finally, residents have a much greater voice in nonprofit communities.
Dining at Hillcrest offers flexibility, variety and quality, with restaurant-style meals, casual café options and convenient grab-and-go choices. Residents enjoy flexible dining plans, guest dining and menus shaped by resident feedback, with options to dine in, take meals to go or host special occasions in the Private Dining Room.

Daily menus include vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free selections, along with classic comfort foods and heart- and brain-healthy MIND Diet offerings that also reduce inflammation in the body.

Hillcrest’s dining venues include the Village Center Cafe for light fare and coffee, the Mountain View Dining Room for full-service meals with scenic views and the Private Dining Room for celebrations. Prospective residents are welcome to visit, tour the community and enjoy a complimentary meal to experience dining at Hillcrest firsthand.
