Not Your Typical Retirement Community.

We call ourselves the “Un-Retirement Community” because at Hillcrest, you literally can’t tell what’s in the community and what’s simply a part of La Verne. In fact, you don’t have to be retired at all to live here; more than a few Hillcrest residents are still working or consulting part-time or full-time.

For people who tire of the fast streets and freeways of Los Angeles or who can’t see themselves moving to a typical, high-density 62+ lifestyle community or a condominium, Hillcrest offers a beautiful alternative: Tucked into the heart of La Verne and spanning over 50 acres, Hillcrest has a small-town vibe that embraces the best of SoCal living.

Gardeners, artists, academics, lifelong learners, wellness enthusiasts and ageless spirits from diverse backgrounds are discovering this hidden gem and loving what they find here. Resident interests inspire diverse social, educational and recreational programs. Activities range from crafts to lectures to field trips. Our active and engaged volunteer program benefits Hillcrest and the surrounding communities.

The Wellness Community.

We have more than a few inspiring “super-agers” who continue to be competitive athletes in their age group and many fitness enthusiasts who are redefining what it means to age well. Of course, staying in shape is easier with Hillcrest’s private 10,500 sq. ft. state-of-the-art fitness center, which features an indoor pool, spa, dedicated fitness team and more than two dozen fitness classes each week.

Classes are led by trained and certified instructors who make increasing strength, coordination, balance and mental acuity a fun, social experience. Hillcrest’s popular Balance Classes—only available to residents—specifically target balance, posture and functional fitness with free balance assessments offered every six months to help refine personal goals.

Lifestyle Options to Explore.

If you want to explore your creativity, you’ll find our well-appointed arts and crafts studio, art gallery, sewing room and state-of-the-art woodshop are the perfect setting for creating something beautiful.

If you enjoy literature and writing, you’ll find the book club and fully stocked library the perfect forums.

If you love music and singing, you’ll find the music studio with a choir and musical groups a great place to hone your talents.

If gardening is one of your passions, you can adopt a garden plot and grow flowers, herbs and veggies. We even have an impressive composting process that provides substantial materials for individual plots.

You Might Ask Yourself, “When Will I Find the Time?”

Because we take care of all of the yard work, maintenance, repairs, etc., your daily schedule is freed up for all the good things in life. Even minor chores, such as going to the post office and salon, can be done right on campus.

Finally, socializing and making new friends at Hillcrest is easy. Our community is known for our easygoing, amiable attitude and welcoming embrace of newcomers. In fact, we have a whole process for that with resident volunteers who ensure new residents feel welcome and discover their tribe within our community.
